The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge travelled to one of Germany's most enchanting cities, Heidelberg, today.
Just south of Frankfurt, surrounded by thick forest, this is the oldest university town in Germany. Heidelberg is a very appropriate stop for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge - it has been twinned with Cambridge since 1965.
William and Kate's first stop in Heidelberg was the German Cancer Research Centre.

The establishment of a national cancer research centre in Germany was initiated by Heidelberg surgeon Professor Karl Heinrich Bauer. The Centre was set up in 1964 by resolution of the State government of Baden-Wuerttemberg as a foundation under public law. In 1975, the Centre became a member of the Association of National Research Centers. Ongoing research programmes include Cell Biology and Tumor Biology, Structural and Functional Genomics, Cancer Risk Factors and Prevention, Tumor Immunology, Innovative Cancer Diagnostics and Therapy, Infection and Cancer and Translational Cancer Research.
They met researchers and visited the stem cell research lab to learn more about the important work being done there.
The Duke and Duchess received a briefing on leukaemia.
The Duchess chose a bespoke yellow brocade Jenny Packham dress today. The floral jacquard dress features the fit-and-flare silhouette is fond of. It's another case of diplomatic dressing as the hue channels the gold in the German flag.
