The Pentagon continues to shrug off all responsibility for the explosive’s damaging effect on humans or the environment.
A military explosive used by The Pentagon, the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense, and its disposal, is poisoning soil in the country, an ongoing investigation by ProPublica has found.
RDX, one of the most powerful conventional explosives in the world, is being burned across the country, with many now believing it causes cancer.
First developed by the U.S. military during World War II, the explosive is turning up in drinking water supplies near military sites across the United States.
The Pentagon, however, has shrugged off all responsibility.
By employing contractors to dispose of the hazardous waste, the entity later avoids responsibility when the contractors commit fraud, improperly handle toxic material, or don’t do cleanups efficiently.
Furthermore, the Pentagon continues to resist scientific evidence that RDX causes cancer, or has any other damaging effect on humans or the environment.
A recent documentary by Vox outlines Pentagon and its role in propagating the harmful effects of RDX.
