Darling Photos of Grandpa Wales and Prince Louis in The Sunday Times Magazine

Days after Prince Charles celebrated his 70th birthday, there's another darling surprise in the form of a fabulous new photo of Grandpa Wales with his youngest grandson. The photo is part of an exclusive photography special by Chris Jackson and Roya Nikkhah for The Sunday Times Magazine.

The Sunday Times Magazine/Chris Jackson

Jackson's selection of images include an unseen photo of Louis touching Charles' face much to the delight of the group. These candid glimpses are wonderful to see. Louis really does look so much like Kate, he's a beautiful baby and appears to have a jolly, playful personality.

More from The Sunday Times:

'Forty years ago, Prince Charles summed up his personal dilemma: “My great problem in life is that I do not really know what my role in life is. At the moment I do not have one, but somehow I must find one.” At 70, he inhabits the roles of king-in-waiting, philanthropist, environmentalist and campaigner. But perhaps the role in which he feels most at ease is that of “Grandpa Wales” — the nickname by which Prince George and Princess Charlotte call him.
On a sunny September afternoon, the nickname rang out around the gardens at Clarence House, his London home. Grandpa Wales beamed as he savoured cuddles with a five-month-old Prince Louis, while a cheeky George vied for the prime spot, clambering onto Charles’s lap for a family photo to mark his milestone (see image above).
Charles was in his element as Charlotte swung off his arms, while the Duke of Sussex larked about, pinching his father’s pocket square, and his newest grandchild tweaked his nose. It was, says Jackson, “the happiest I have seen him”.
“It was lovely chaos with the children,” he adds. “He is a very hands-on grandfather. He was holding hands with George and Charlotte, and bouncing Louis up and down for a long time. George was very happy on the prince’s knee. They have a great relationship that’s a little more established, as George is a bit older.”

Speaking about the process of photographing Charles for a year, Chris Jackson said: "I’ve spent much of the last year documenting some intimate and ‘behind the scenes’ moments with The Prince of Wales to celebrate his 70th Birthday - It really has been an incredible privilege to create such a unique set of images and a huge amount of fun at the same time."

Back to the article:

'According to Prince Harry, “the man never stops”. He is a bona fide “workaholic”, agrees the Duchess of Cornwall, who recently admitted she wished her husband would slow down. As the busiest working royal, clocking up more than 600 official engagements a year, the prince has precious little downtime. But those rare moments when he is able to escape the crowds and courtiers are his tonic. He will always take an afternoon walk, preferably on his own, in his special studded walking shoes, secateurs in hand, to gather his thoughts. “He’d often just disappear off,” says Jackson, who tried to blend into the background while Charles attempted to get some me-time.
For much of his 70 years, the prince’s relationship with his mother has been consistently interpreted as formal, uneasy and distant — the result of a woman who was forced to put the business of monarchy ahead of motherhood and a son who has never come to terms with the absence of maternal affection.
Not so, says Jackson: “My impression of mother and son is that I see two people who have a great relationship. We don’t see them together on a regular basis, but you look at those pictures from the Highland Games every year, and when two people are laughing in that way, that’s not something you can fake.”
