The Cambridges & Friends Attend Sunday Service at St Mary's

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined the Queen for Sunday service at St Mary's this morning.

The Cambridges made the walk from the house surrounded by a group of friends. It's becoming something of a tradition for William and Kate to host their close-knit group on the weekend before Kate's birthday. The Duchess celebrates her 37th birthday on Wednesday, a relaxed weekend before returning to London seems the perfect way to mark the occasion. The Middleton family were notably absent this year - they are enjoying a sun soaked holiday in St Barts with Pippa's in-laws.

The couple were joined by close friends James and Laura Meade. James is Charlotte's godfather and last year William and Kate chose Laura as one of Louis' godparents. They were accompanied by George's godmother Emilia Jardine-Paterson and her husband David. Emilia has been a friend of Kate's since their time at Marlborough College.

Other familiar faces included Charlotte's godfather Thomas van Straubenzee,

Her Majesty was elegant as ever en route to church this morning. I do miss seeing Philip by the Queen's side at public events. I very much hope the Duke is relishing every day of his retirement. They are both said to treasure Christmas at Sandringham with the family and their time together on the estate afterwards.

After the service, William and Kate met locals and well-wishers.

The Duchess received lovely flowers.

The Duchess wore the bespoke funnel neck Catherine Walker coat she debuted in Norway almost one year ago. At the time, the garment served as a maternity piece for Kate. The coat has been altered and taken in since.

The Duchess wore a polka-dot dress underneath.

From our limited view of the dress, it very much looks like the LK Bennett Mortimer dress the Duchess wore last month for a visit to new patronage Evelina London.

Several readers suggested the Alessandra Rich dress Kate wore for Prince Charles' 70th birthday portraits. I believe the crepe-de-chine midi dress is too long.

Kate's love of headbands continued today as she debuted a new piece matching her coat.

It appears the headband is a Jane Taylor design (with many thanks to Replica Royalty).

Eagle-eyed Gabi notes the Duchess wore her navy Prada pointy toe pumps.

And carried her navy suede Jimmy Choo Celeste clutch with cube clasp. The clutch is described as: "Featuring an elegant chain shoulder strap an iconic Jimmy Choo metal cube clasp, this statement accessory is finished with an internal slip pocket and foil embossed logo."

Kate completed the look with her Annoushka pearls and Kiki McDonough hoops.

It's always a treat to see the royals at Sandringham. If you're just popping in, our annual Year in Review post was published yesterday. Click here to read it.
