Well, I had a pretty awful experience today. I had eye surgery, here’s what happened...
In the waiting room, everyone was talking about COVID and someone asked if anyone knew of anyone who had it. I said I had a coronavirus over a month ago that felt just like how they explain COVID, and it was awful, but I don’t know anyone who’s actually had COVID.
When I was about to leave after my surgery, the director of the facility came into my room, with others behind her, and told me that she needed to ask me some questions. She then began to interrogate me and asked me why I didn’t tell them that I had COVID when they first asked me their screening questions at the beginning of my appointment. I told her bc I didn’t have COVID, I had a coronavirus and that COVID is a STRAND of coronavirus, but they are not the same thing. Every time I tried to explain that they were different things, she would put her hand up and ask the question again. She wouldn’t listen to me. She continued to try and tell me that I had COVID, because it’s a coronavirus, and kept asking HOW I was tested and WHO tested me and WHERE my results were sent and WHO gave me my results. Over and over and over.
She acted angry towards me the whole time, as if I was harmful to them and was just caught with an explosive on me or something. Finally, she let me show her my test results (that I thankfully had online)(and that were honestly none of her business. You know, HIPAA) that showed negative test result for COVID and then she instantly changed her tone, had me text her a screenshot of my results in case “word got out” and let me go.
I got to my car and just felt like crying. Probably a more dramatic response than necessary, but it just felt awful to be cornered, questioned, and treated that way.
Also, I made it very clear.... VERY clear... that it was over a month ago that I was sick. Their screening questions asked if you, or anyone you knew, had COVID in the last 14 DAYS. So even if I DID have it, I still wouldn’t have had done anything wrong and would have answered THEIR questions honestly.
They literally wouldn’t let me leave. I was getting up to go and she came in and shut the curtain behind her. I could hear people talking about me behind the curtain and they would keep walking by and trying to look in. As if I were some criminal they just caught. Everyone was so nice to me before that. And then when she pulled the curtain back for me to leave, no one would even look at me or talk to me. I didn’t do anything wrong 😭
I’m over all of this. It’s made people become scared of one another. Nasty to one another. Who are we becoming??
**Update: I just got off the phone with their administration and they were absolutely wonderful and apologetic towards me. She said she will be reporting it to the office manager and will have someone reach out to me ASAP to address this ❤️
